Butter Chicken


Butter Chicken is a dish from Indian sub continent.Butter chicken is one of the most popular,lip smacking and delicious gravy that’s been loved by many across the world.It goes well with naan or kulcha.To make an authentic butter chicken we need to grill the chicken either in a pan ,tandoor or oven.Next cook up in rich gravy.

I have shared step by step method to prepare a delicious authentic butter chicken with a detailed pictures.

In a pan heat oil add sliced onions saute it changes to transcluent add chopped tomatoes,almond and ginger garlic paste saute until the raw aroma goes away.Allow it to cool and blend to a smooth paste.

In a kadai melt butter.

Add a smooth paste.stir well Add salt and red chilli powder cook until the oil leaves side of the pan.

In a bowl add Ginger garlic paste,salt, oil, red chilli powder,black pepper powder.

Mix the chicken with all the spices.cook until the chicken changes to tender.

Pour a cup of water add tomato ketchup ,sugar mix well. cover the lid and cook for few minutes.

Check the consistency of the gravy. Turn off the flame.Add heavy cream.

Garnish the butter chicken with fresh coriander leaves.

Chicken do piaza
  • 1 sliced onions
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp of red chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp of cream
  • 1 tbsp of tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp of sugar


  • 1/2 kg of boneless chicken
  • 1 tsp of oil
  • 1 tsp of red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp of black pepper powder
  • 1 tsp of Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp of cumin powder


  • cleanly wash the chicken.Drain the excess water.
  • In a pan add ginger Garlic paste,salt,red chilli paste,cumin powder, black pepper powder,oil cook the chicken until it changes to tender.
  • In another pan heat oil add sliced onions, saute till the onions changes to transparent.
  • Add ginger garlic paste saute till the raw aroma goes away.
  • Add almond and chopoed tomatoes saute till the raw aroma goes away allow it to cool.
  • In a blender blend the onion tomato mixture to a smooth paste.
  • In a kadai melt butter add the above paste stir well.
  • Add salt and red chilli powder mix well.pour a cup of water,add cooked chicken,sugar and ketchup cover the lid and cook for few more minutes.Turn off the flame.
  • Finally add heavy cream stir gently garnish with fresh coriander leaves or kasuri methi.
  • Serve butter chicken with naan ,kulcha or Ghee rice.
